Trump Introduces Project Stargate - The Weekly #15
Emad Mostaque, Founder and CEO, Stability AI
Hot on the heels of Keir Starmer, this Tuesday, Donald Trump introduced the world to project Stargate: a joint venture with OpenAI, Oracle and Softbank to invest billions of dollars to ramp up AI infrastructure within the USA. That investment is thought to be an initial $100 billion and up to $500 billion over the next four years. However, there has been a good bit of mud-slinging by a number of industry titans since that announcement, with Elon Musk claiming the companies involved “don’t actually have the money". Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, has also claimed this will start to drive a division between Microsoft and OpenAI, as the former looks to become independent of the latters solutions.
All of the school ground stuff aside, it's clear that, yet again, investment in AI is right at the very top of world leaders' agendas.

Pope Francis Warns of AI's Impact on Truth
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Pope Francis expressed concerns that AI could exacerbate a "crisis of truth" by generating content indistinguishable from human-created material. He urged governments and businesses to implement vigilant measures to address the ethical and societal implications of AI advancements. It's quite an interesting comment from an establishment that relies entirely on faith.
AI Now Makes Recovery Sessions More Flexible
Two leading names in the world of fitness have come together to provide a new AI tool. Using exercise data from Garmin, Therabody, the maker of massage guns, will soon be able to create personal recovery plans based on the workout you have just done. E.g. if you've just tracked a 10k run with your Garmin watch, this will feed into Therabody's app which will suggest a specific leg recovery plan.
