Google Releases Gemini 2.0
Google's Gemini has flown under the radar, especially if you're not signed up to the Google ecosystem. However, it is a very capable generative AI model that's just been significantly improved. With version 2.0 being more capable than previous versions, with native image and audio output and tool use, Google say it's a new model designed for the "agentic era". It's going to be very interesting to see how Google further integrates Gemini into its suite of products, representing a significant challenge to Microsoft's Co-Pilot.
OpenAI Launches Sora
OpenAI has finally made its video generation model, Sora, available to the public. The demand for Sora is so high that access is being throttled, and it is not currently open to the UK. Sora represents a huge leap forward in generative AI, and despite its challenges in producing subjects like gymnasts, it will have a very disruptive influence on current, traditional methods. Sora is only available to users on Pro and Pro+ subscriptions.
Parents Sue Character.ai
The parents of a Texan child are suing Character.ai after they claim it encouraged him to kill them. These are the types of stories that have us all worried about AI and the negative impact it can have on society.
