AI, What Is It Good For?
Are we using this incredible technology for the right things?

You might have seen the latest meme going around LinkedIn where you use ChatGPT to create an action figure likeness of yourself. I have now seen this up to about 20 times just this week from different connections and whilst it is a fun little exercise, it does make you question, is this really, what we're using AI for?
I was encouraged, however, to see that I'm not the only one thinking this, as just this morning, I saw the below post from Matt Desmier, who poses the point: "The focus is on the wrong thing."
I don't want to take anyone's fun away, but when we have the Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, mandating that all staff must use AI at every possible point, we have to question what value are we getting from this wonderful technology. As I have written about previously, having an AI Strategy is a must for any organisation seeking to take advantage of AI in the workplace. Just forcing people to use a GPT for some basic task is not going to fundamentally move your business forward or provide the competitive edge that you seek. To use AI effectively, you must treat it like a tool that can solve specific challenges, usually where automation, pattern recognition, forecasting, etc, are the solutions. We don't pick up a hammer and then ask, "what can I hit?"
Tobi Lüke, CEO, Shopify
