Personal Productivity Isn't True AI Adoption
Using simple AI tools might help with personal efficiency, but developing AI projects under a broader AI strategy is true AI adoption.

There are now a huge amount of "AI tools" on the market. You've probably noticed that already. And we also hear lots of "thought leaders" claiming if you aren't using AI yet, you're falling behind. And that is true, at least from a personal productivity point of view. Consider automated note-takers. By now, I'm sure you've been on an online call where someone has added an AI assistant that will automatically record the transcript of the call, which allows you to get various insights and suggested actions. One of the most well-known companies in this space is Gong, but every week, I hear someone mention a new one. In just the last week, I've been made aware of tldv.io and Fathom to add to this ever-growing list.
They are already a commodity.
Personal Productivity Isn't True AI Adoption
These apps are fantastic for personal productivity. For one, they mean you don't have to manually take notes. The insights they provide are also very beneficial, perhaps picking up on sentiment you might have missed or highlighting a request you didn't catch at the time. But is using apps like these really "adopting AI"? I'm not too sure. For me, companies that build entirely new processes using AI capability as part of a broader AI strategy are what it truly means to adopt AI.
What does that look like?
Take an insurance company that provides new customer quotes by referencing a pricing model to determine the most profitable and yet competitive price in real time using APIs. Or a bakery receiving the optimal bake list each morning based on thousands of observations from the previous day to minimize waste and reduce the end-of-day price. These are actual AI projects, not just a simple productivity tool for the individual. And it's the former that's really going to change business competitiveness.
